As you travel the 18 mile stretch of US1 from mainland Florida to Key Largo, you will experience a gradual release of tensions from the city. Key Largo is a place to relax & play. If you live here year round, you will live more quietly or set your own pace for the race. Key Largo is the home of the African Queen, the boat used in the movie of the same name. It was also the location for the filming of the movie, Key Largo with Humfrey Bogart & Lauren Bacall. 11,000 full time residents live here, and when the snow starts to fall in the North, the population soars to about 30,000 or so it seems. Spectacular fishing & diving are here in Key Largo at John Pennecamp State Park and the surrounding Key Largo Marine Sanctuary.
Try to get down here during Lobster Season....... end of July...... for the Mini Lobster slaying weekend before the official opening of the Season. I swear I've seen massive 25 lbers parading over to the Marine Sanctuary (where they are protected). HOW DO THEY KNOW??? Book your Key Largo hotel now. Fishing, world class diving, & restaurants with seafood to make your mouth water. Just lay back & relax. There's nothing you need to do except enjoy yourself. You will see many marvels of the marine world, massive brain coral at White Banks or the Christ Statue at Pennecamp Park. Year round you will find that the yellowtail snapper, marlin, wahoo, sailfish, bonefish, & tarpon will be happy to steal your bait. And if all this doesn't tempt you, we have the alligators, herons, egrets, & roseate spoonbills in the Everglades nearby to charm you in their natural habitats. Visit Key Largo,Florida soon!
