Islamorada Diving Areas
"The Eagle" - 90-120 feet -Advanced Open Water divers
A 300 foot ship sunk in 110 feet of water as primarily a dive attraction. Resting on her starboard, The Eagle is home to colorful sponge, coral, and large schools of grunt, tarpon, and jack. Over the years since 1985, She has set the stage for the growth of some amazing and colorful corals (even at 90 feet).
Alligator Reef - 15-25 feet - Open Water divers
A 136-foot-tall lighthouse reigns supreme here. Iin 1822 the USS Alligator went aground and sank while protecting a convoy of shis from pirates raiders. The wreck has been reduced to twin piles of ballast stones, but the coral reef that has grown around it is alive and beauty to behold for snorkelers and divers. In a study conducted in the 1960's over 500 species of fish and marine life were identified.
Crocker Reef - 30-80 feet - Open Water divers.
This is a spur and grove reef with some rather large valleys and walls. There are several areas on the reef we commonly dive to take in the level of diversity that it offers. Great for all levels of divers as well as drifting the wall end of the reef to find some of the rare black coral.
Hen and Chickens Reef - 18-22 feet - Advanced divers
Maybe one of the most amazing Sanctuary Preservation Areas in the upper keys. GIANT christmas tree and brain corals dominate the underwater landscape. Some coral heads are over 15 feet tall! Truly a prolific area of corals that almost creates a labyrinth for divers to explore. Even though it's shallow, no divers ever regret visiting.
Pickles Reef - 5- 30 feet - Open Water divers
For macro photo enthusiasts, Pickles provides a wonderful opportunity to encounter the reef's minutia, from flamingo tongue cowries to banded coral shrimp, all amid a dynamic coral reef in only 15 to 25 feet of water.
