Marathon Deep Sea fishing report

I fished a family out of the Lake Summit area this week and had a great time. The wind was comming out of the Northeast at 15 but the heading to and from the area we fished allowed us to trough the waves both in and out and the ride was fine in our 27' Center Console.

 

That is the best thing about chartering and guiding in the keys there is always some kind of fishing you can do no matter what the wind is doing, Offshore, Reef, Gulf Wreck, Bridge, Flats, you even have the option of fishing the inside and outside of the everglades up in the Flamingo area which is only a short boat ride from Marathon.

I choose to start our day on a steel pile about 16 miles Northwest from Marathon and it was a fine choice, after dropping in the chum bag we started to hook up right away. my clients were a husband and wife, her mother and their 13 year old son Andy who was quite a fisherman, what he lacked in knowledge he made up for with his enthusiam, that day he earned the title of Grouper Man.

He caught and released at least a dozen nice Gag, Red and Goliath Grouper along with his share of oversized Mangrove Snappers, Mackeral, Puffers, Bluefish, Blue Runners and assorted Jacks, his rod was bent most of the day. Mom, Cindy and Dad Todd and even Grandmom stayed busy picking away at the Snappers. At the end of the day the score was 25 nice Snappers around 3 pounds and up, a bunch of mackeral and smiles all around. Un fortunetly we had to release all of the Grouper even the keeper size ones due

The night fishing has been great down here for the last 3 months, but I think that bright light really made a world of difference and I'll also be rigging one on my 30' Center Console.
