Went out fun fishing last night as my vacation is winding down. Started out with some bully netting and as has been the case all month the bugs were walking!
We put our limit of 24 slob lobster in the box in about 2 hours and haeded in to unload the boat and let the thunder storm pass over. The storm passed over in about 20 minutes and we were off.
After emptying the pin fish trap we headed out to the Thunderbolt for some deep water action. We set the anchor and put out the chum and the fish turned on right away. The first fish we landed was a mutton in the 15lb range, folowed by 2 more.
As I was putting the third mutton in the box, my buddy Pablo hooked into a screamer. The fish made 3 or 4 runs before he got it to the boat and we were all pleasantly suprised, it was a huge snook which we all admired and than promptly released.
We still had the new 300 watt bully netting light on the boat so we decided to drop it overboard and check out what it might attract. The next dozen or so fish were all large snook when they came to the surface they were followed by a dozen or so others, what a sight.
We also hooked up a small grouper which got upgraded to a 400lb jewfish right at boatside. The light was incredible it attracted squid, bluerunners, rainbowrunners, tom tates, goggle eyes, pilchards, etc. That was the first time I have ever used a really bright light in the keys at night, you could see down 50 feet.
The night fishing has been great down here for the last 3 months, but I think that bright light really made a world of difference and I'll also be rigging one on my 30' Center Console. If you would like to try some night fishing or bully netting on your next trip to the Keys, just call410-320-5903 or e-mail me @ greenmachine charters@comcast.net.
Thanx,
Capt. Fuzzy
